People often comment on the friendly and vibrant atmosphere here at Reading. It’s a place to meet new people from around the world and to build friendships that last a lifetime.  There is a huge range of societies, sports clubs and volunteering opportunities to get involved with, alongside a busy social calendar organised by Reading University Students’ Union. From the beautiful campus the town centre is only a short walk away, and London is just half an hour by train. The possibilities are limitless.

The University of Reading's origins lie in the Schools of Art and Science established in Reading in 1860 and 1870. It received a Royal Charter in 1926, the only university to do so between the two world wars. In 1947 it purchased the beautiful Whiteknights campus, the former estate of the Marquess of Blandford. In 2008, the University merged with Henley Management College to create the Henley Business School.

Reading lies at the heart of the Thames Valley in south east England, and has the fastest-growing economy in England. The main Whiteknights campus is set in 160 hectares of meadowland and parkland and won the Green Flag Award in 2011 as the highest-rated University campus in the scheme’s national People’s Choice Awards. The town centre is well within walking distance of the University’s Whiteknights and London Road campuses – or take one of the buses from the Whiteknights campus which run every seven minutes. From the recently expanded mainline rail station in the town centre it is only 30 minutes to central London, and trains run throughout the UK.
The M4 motorway, which connects London with South Wales, is on the edge of town. International airports Heathrow and Gatwick are also in easy reach.
